I remember conceiving Hit the Deck! when I was 13 or 14. I know the exact age because the setting was still in my old house at Choa Chu Kang/Yew Tee. At that point, it did not have a name, but the reason for even attempting such a game was the ambitious and bold idea that I could actually make a Poker Card game with what was available in a deck of cards. This sat well with me, because I was always interested in indulging in my creative nature, and had the philosophy that playing games is fun, but what's even more fun is designing games, and then playing those games you designed! So I initially proposed the game idea to my younger brother, who is usually pretty resistant to such escapades. I tried convincing him, but his boredom and inertia for such trivialities prevented much progress. I did however initially conceive of a tug-of-war mechanic, around the theme of a ship battle. And that was as far as I got. It was only in 2020, that I revisited many of my ideas that I conceived in my youth, and started on completing this particular concept, and bring it to fruition. The result was what we have now, Hit the Deck!, a game which name plays upon a pun.
So, a bit of history about Hit the Deck!
